A psychoeducational assessment can be a helpful way to learn about your child and their needs, whether they are experiencing difficulty with learning or managing big emotions. As part of my approach, I integrate information from multiple sources to inform my decisions. This process often includes gathering input from the child, you as the parent, and their teacher at school. Having information from teachers can be particularly beneficial, as it helps me understand how your child behaves in different environments and allows me to tailor my recommendations to be as helpful as possible.
I believe that a “balanced” assessment is more useful than a “lopsided” one. In my work as an assessor, I strive to find a balance between a child’s strengths and challenges. In my recommendations, I often draw on a child’s strengths or interests to help them grow.
