As a parent and former teacher, I understand that sometimes we do everything we possibly can to set up our children to be successful, to learn, to be happy, and to regulate their feelings and behaviour. However, sometimes, our tools are not enough, and we don’t know what is left to do. At these times, looking for a different perspective could provide the key to supporting their development and improving their quality of life.

As a psychologist, I strive to understand each child from multiple perspectives (i.e., the child’s, the parents’, and the teacher’s) and create a comprehensive picture of a child’s strengths and weaknesses. The more insight we have about a child, the more it allows us to look at them with “softer eyes;” to understand that their performance/behaviour at school, home, and community comes from the interplay of their strengths and weaknesses and the demands and expectations placed on them.

With this knowledge, appropriate enrichments, supports, and interventions can be developed, providing the groundwork for a child to flourish.
